Moving around in virtual keyboard – backspace, etc
Hi Guy,
I understand that typing Hebrew is often a pain online, as underlying platforms find the right-to-left orientation difficult to render. However, perhaps you have tips for this situation: I am still very slow at writing in Hebrew, and when I’m doing the translation exercises I flick back and forth to find vocabulary and pick out the letters one by one. Sometimes I realise I have missed a letter, or that the word order is wrong. I use my cursor to find the right place in the text, but then when I type the correction into the virtual keyboard, it often puts it in a different place than where my cursor is. I sometimes end up deleting the entire partial answer in order to be able to correct it. It’s not the end of the world, of course, but if there a workaround which would make this easier, I’d be glad to hear about it.

Hey Penny – I have an update, and it’s very good news. I completely revamped the keyboard, made it cleaner and added some quality of life features.
1. You can now always open it from the circle on the bottom right of the site.
2. The keyboard now has forward and backward arrows for easy navigation/correction on mobile and computer.
3. There is an “EN” toggle that shows you the equivalent keys on an English keyboard.
4. If you want to practice touch-typing based on a native Hebrew keyboard layout, there is a toggle that makes your English typing from your own keyboard appear as Hebrew on the screen. This means you can use your existing keyboard as if you also had Hebrew installed!
5. On mobile, the keyboard being up would prevent your own phone’s keyboard from popping up, so you can use Hebleo’s Hebrew keyboard for Hebleo without needing to install any new keyboard layout!
I’ve been wanting to do this for a while, and your post gave me a reason to take the day to do it properly. Please let me know your opinion of the new keyboard.

Thanks for checking in!
I’ve been away on holiday so have only been able to spend time with the new virtual keyboard today.
I have two remaining problems:
– the keyboard obscures the field where I’m typing. I only have a relatively small screen on my laptop, and the keyboard can’t be repositioned on the screen. I can scroll to see the field above the keyboard, but as soon as I select it to type in, it jumps down to being behind the keyboard. See attached screenshot.
– the second problem is that things still jump around within the field, which I think is related to the direction of text and typing being right to left rather than left to right. For example, if I add a full stop or a question mark after the sentence using the virtual keyboard, it puts it at the wrong end of the sentence. If I try to get my cursor in the right place to add or delete a letter because I know I’ve made a mistake, it adds it in the wrong place or deletes the wrong letter. The first problem exacerbates this, as I can’t see the field when I’m actually typing. Perhaps the forward and back keys work, but I can’t see their impact when the keyboard obscures the field I’m typing in.
